Tom Petty

Today's pick:
Breakdown – Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
So, Friday night we took the kids to Parent's Night Out, but neither one of us was up for a big date night. We went out for dinner, hung out at the bookstore, picked up the kids early and came home. While I was putting the kids to bed, Tony grabbed beers, Tom Petty's Greatest Hits and opened up the windows. We sat on the patio and relaxed to this CD and it was the perfect ending to our date night.

This CD is one of my all-time favorite greatest hits compilations. For a greatest hits CD to be really great I think it needs to span genres and decades, and this one does. It opens with American Girl (released in 1976 and which will always, ALWAYS bring to mind that scene in Silence of the Lambs) and ends with Something in the Air (1993).

Tom Petty is one of those artists that just keeps on pushing out the songs, and I'm thankful for that. His music personifies so much of my feelings about the 1970s, rock music and Milwaukee. This CD is always in heavy rotation around our house, and before the days of plugging the iPod into the car for unlimited music, this was always in the car.
