Mom Stuff: The TLC Vox Box

As a member of Influenster, I get to try out some pretty interesting products and then discuss my thoughts on them. Earlier this month, I received the TLC VoxBox, which included a bunch of products designed to make my life a little easier... maybe even a little sweeter. Sharing my thoughts on them here today!

(Pictured at left, the TLCVoxBox sent to me for free by Influenster for the purpose of product reviews. No review was promised and the thoughts, opinions and ideas contained herein are mine and mine alone. My opinion is not for sale. This disclosure is in accordance with the FTC's 16 CFR, part 255: "Guidelines Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising.)

This gorgeous bar of Ivory soap was included in the package, and I became terribly excited as this is a product I already use every day, my kids use every day. How wonderful to get a bar for free! Cha-ching! But seriously, Ivory is about $4 for 10 bars so my excitement may have been slightly irrational, but whatever. A freebie is a freebie!

I have tried so many different facial cleansers over the years, and nothing did the trick for me. My very good friend (with very good skin) suggested Ivory soap and it was all over, it's all I've used on my face for at least five years.

Pros: Cheap and effective! Smells great
Cons: None

A trio of summertime problem solvers! First up, Puffs To Go, which are a necessity in Oklahoma during allergy season. This kind with lotion is soft but not overly so, and the top-opening packet stays closed better than other brands I've tried, but still the tissues get stuck to the adhesive which is annoying. The tissues themselves are neither too thin nor slimy like some lotion tissues can be. Also pretty cost effective at 50 cents a packet.

Pros: Cheap and effective
Cons: Tissues stick to the adhesive

Neosporin's Neo To Go! is a must have around our house. My kids are prone to bumps and cuts (haven't quite hit the graceful stage yet, even as tweens), and unlike the kids of the 70s who would spit-clean the grit out of a skinned knee before continuing forth, they appreciate a good antiseptic. This one also says it's "pain relieving" but my kids still swear it stings—but not enough for me to do the spit wash on them. I love the portability and wish that all my spray products were in containers like this so I could carry them on a loop! Just imagine it: hair spray, insect repellant, sunscreen, breath spray, all on a handy loop! Just don't mix them up.

Pros: Portability and effectiveness
Cons: Possible stinging issue

Finally, the Shell Fuel Rewards Network Card is going with me so I can earn free gas when I visit the pump! Problem is I haven't yet had a chance to use it (sad trombone). I can report that signing up online was super-easy and I do look forward to saving money!

Pros & Cons: Remain to be seen

This AVON Anew Reversalist Express Wrinkle Smoother promises to blur the look of wrinkles on the forehead and eyes. It's easy to use and I've tried it a few times. I'm not much of an everyday makeup wearer—a little mascara, a little lip and I'm out the door. Some days a bit of concealer. Eye shadow if I'm feeling fancy. I'm also not at that point in my life yet where my face is riddled with bothersome wrinkles... which may mean I'm either in denial or I have good genes (thanks, Mom!).

Really, my biggest wrinkle is that vertical line between my eyes that appeared about 12 years ago (thanks, kids!), and I don't think any cream in the world will help that.

Pros: Feels good on your skin, easy to use
Cons: A bit pricey at $30

I totally saved the best for last. In my awesome #TLCVoxBox, I also received a coupon for a free container of Bryer's Gelato Indulgences, and I was more than happy to take one for the team while reviewing this one. I even found it at slightly under the MSRP of $4.50-$6, so, score! Yes, even though it was free, I still love a bargain. I picked up the vanilla caramel though my eyes were initially drawn to the raspberry cheesecake. But my husband is allergic to berries, so I picked one we could both try. It is good. Super-yummy. Creamy. Dreamy.

Last night, my husband went into the kitchen and spied the empty container in the recycle bin.
"You know I only had two spoonfuls of that, right?" He queried.
To which I replied with faux guilt, "Oops."

Pros: Delicious, good range of flavors, not a lot of weird ingredients
Cons: Somewhat pricey

Took one for the team.

  1. That gelato sounds amazing. Will definitely have to give it a try!

  2. I love the vintage wrapping on that soap. It is very fun to get stuff in the mail to review on the bloggy. =)
