Mix Tape Shuffle: Road Trip Edition

Seriously; who doesn't like a road trip? Some of my best memories are road trip related, and a big part of that is the music. Sometimes you can count on the radio to treat you well, and if you've got satellite radio you'll likely have more luck (though I ditched the satellite when I realized there was no punk station—seriously?—and now I just program my own. I'm totally going to add that to my resume—musical program director FTW) but really, you know that sinking feeling when you're on the road and you realize you don't have the right CDs or your MP3 player to connect or your box of cassettes because it's not 1987 anymore.
Cars and music just go together. It's all about what you want to hear, so that makes road trips a perfect occasion for a mix tape shuffle.
What makes a great road trip mix? I have two basic criteria:
  1. Fun to sing out loud to. Swear words optional.
  2. Easy to drive-dance to. You know what this is even if you're unfamiliar with the word.
And that's about it. Take it from an over-thinker, you can totally over-think this one. Avoid over-thinking. Just find the songs that make you happy, make you sing and make shake your groove thing.
  1. Radar Love (Golden Earring)
  2. You Know I'm No Good (Amy Winehouse)
  3. White Lines (Grandmaster Flash)
  4. Give me Some Water (Eddie Money)
  5. Flag Pole Sitta (Harvey Danger)
  6. Sleep Now in the Fire (Rage Against the Machine)
  7. Hump de Bump (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
  8. California Babylon (Transplants)
  9. Flowers on the Wall (Statler Brothers)
  10. The Distance (Cake)
  11. It's Tricky (Run DMC)
  12. Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)
  13. Magic Power (Triumph)
  14. Hot Rod Lincoln (Commander Cody)
  15. I Fought the Law (The Clash)
  16. I Won't Run No More (Social Distortion)
Special category: songs for night driving:
  1. In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins)
  2. Hurdy Gurdy Man (Donovan)
  3. I Drove All Night (Cyndi Lauper)
  4. Walk on the Wild Side (Lou Reed)
